Step 3: Say YES to being salty đ§and lit đ„
Say YES to being salty đ§ and lit đ„
Scripture
âYou are the salt of the earthâŠYou are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowlâŠIn the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.â
ââMatthew⏠â5âŹ:â13âŹ-â16âŹ
Brief Observation
One of my favorite Christian t-shirts summarizes this dynamite passage with a simple phrase: âSalty & Lit.â These words remind us of our heavenly significance and our earthly responsibility.
Jesus, described by John as âthe true lightâ (John 1:9) and âthe light of the worldâ (John 8:12, 9:5), looked at his disciples and said âYOU are the light of the world!â To those who believed the common lie that their life is inconsequential, Jesus told the truth that they are heavenly consequential. To those who struggled with self-doubt, Jesus says, âyou shine bright!â
Because of this dynamic truth we have a responsibility to let our day to day lives be salty and lit. A player on the bench is no good for their team, like salt in a salt shaker is no good for a meal and light under a bowl is no good for a room. Our responsibility is to be salty and lit with Jesus in whatever job we have and whatever relationship we are placed. There are no benchwarmers in Jesusâ kingdom. We are all salty and lit!
Prayer
Father, when I am tempted to think life is about me, remind me that I am called to share your love in action so others may see and glorify you. Spirit, when I am tempted to believe my life doesnât matter, remind me that I am called to be salty and bring out the goodness in the world. Jesus, shine your light in and through me.
